Club Foundation

The Club Foundation, the only 501(c)(3) charitable organization for the private club industry, was established by the Club Managers Association of America (CMAA) in 1988. The mission of The Club Foundation is to financially support the professional development of club managers through education, training and research initiatives.

In order to achieve this goal, the Foundation has developed its Scholarship and Grant Program, which targets the following five funding areas: 1) Manager scholarships and grants; 2) Student scholarships and grants; 3) Faculty grants and internships; 4) Chapter grants; and 5) Industry grants. A few of the Foundation’s accomplishments are highlighted below:

  • Club Managers – Since 2002, seven (7) Willmoore H. Kendall Scholarships have been awarded with the purpose of providing tuition support to assistant club managers interested in pursuing the Certified Club Manager (CCM) designation. Additionally, over $1.5 million has been allocated for the development and maintenance of programs such as the Business Management Institutes (BMI I – VI) and the Manager in Development program (MID).
  • Students – More than 120 scholarships have been awarded to those pursuing managerial careers in the private club industry. In addition, The Club Foundation annually offers over 30 students the opportunity to attend the CMAA World Conference on Club Management.
  • Faculty – Over 25 faculty members have received the internship offered by The Club Foundation. These internships help faculty better understand the club management industry, which ultimately allow faculty to construct their curricula with a stronger focus on private club core areas.
Through The Club Foundation’s Campaign for Excellence, an initial fund of $3 million was established. Pledges and contributions to this campaign were driven by CMAA members and chapters, private clubs, student chapters, corporations, foundations and individuals. A second campaign, The Campaign to Promote Excellence…Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow, began in 2002 with a comprehensive goal of raising $4.5 million. This Campaign is currently ongoing and the Foundation is actively seeking support from all groups.

The Georgia Chapter, through the support of its Board of Directors and individual CMAA members, has demonstrated their leadership with major contributions of $75,000 from the Chapter and individual contributions as noted in your directory.
